Ideas for Seniors to Beat the Heat in Airdrie

Posted on August 4th, 2021

If we have another heat wave like the one we had recently, then you will want to be ready to beat the heat. Here are some tips for keeping your cool. Airdrie not only has plenty of activities to offer, but Calgary is very close, too!

Museums

Check out the Nose Creek Valley Museum on Main Street, which has the biggest collection of arrowheads in western Canada. Museums are always a great choice when it is hot outside because art collections and historical objects require carefully climate-controlled conditions. Museums will all be air-conditioned. If you feel like taking a ride into Calgary, then you can always visit the Glenbow Museum downtown.

Get Wet

Getting wet will definitely cool you down. Visit the Prairie Winds Park in northeast Calgary, just east of the airport. It’s an easy drive from Airdrie, and there are many ways to splash and get wet in the wading pool and spray features. Yes, kids like it, but seniors could have just as much fun.

Keeping Cool at Home

There is nothing wrong with just staying home to keep cool. Just be sure to close your windows and shades when the sun is beating down on them and drink plenty of water. Try a cool activity that doesn’t require a lot of movement, like playing cards or reading a book, or watching a movie. You can always do some activities outside early in the morning before the sun is high in the sky.

If you happen to live with us at Cedarwood Station, there will be plenty of activities on the monthly recreational calendar to keep you busy and help you forget the searing heat outside.
