Fun activities you can do with visiting grandchildren in the summer

July 26th, 2018

One of the best parts of being a grandparent is when the grandchildren arrive. The bond that comes between the generations is unlike any other and everyone enjoys the quality time they spend together. When children visit seniors residences, they bring a joy and energy to the community that is infectious. This is why many of our residents want to find exciting places to bring the children. Airdrie just happens to have numerous choices:

Riding a Train at Iron Horse Park

If the grandchildren are into trains, Iron Horse Park is the place to go. Riding on a 1/8th scale diesel or steam engine will allow everyone to see what it was like to travel across Canada back in the good old days. The track runs 1.6km and shows what the pioneer days were like. It’s open every Sunday until October 7th, so you have lots of time to check it out.

Fishing at Nose Creek Regional Park

If fishing and the outdoors is more your taste, heading out into the great outdoors is a great way to bond with the grandchildren. The pond is stocked with trout so it’s always easy to catch a fish. If you prefer food that isn’t moving, bring a picnic or cook at one of the numerous fire pits.

Playing at Chinook Winds Regional Park

For grandchildren of all ages, this park offers a skate park, a spray park, and 3 different playgrounds. It’s perfect for children of all ages to get outside, get active, and enjoy the summer heat.

Enjoying Multiculturalism at Gwacheon Park

Celebrating the relationship with Gwacheon, South Korea, this park boasts six totem poles that were gifted to Airdrie, along with a Korean arch and numerous flower beds and flag poles. It’s great place to go for a relaxing walk, enjoy lunch outside, and talk.

At Cedarwood Station, we want our residents to get outside and enjoy as many activities as they can in the beautiful city of Airdrie. Come and talk to us today about our independent living programs.
