Smartphone Safety Tips for Seniors

August 28th, 2020

Smartphones have revolutionized the way we communicate with each. However, not all seniors are well-versed in smartphone usage. As recently as 1990, cell phones were still pretty rare and very expensive.

In this blog article, we’re going to give you some tips on smartphone safety tips for seniors.

  • Get a case and a glass cover.

It’s easy to damage a smartphone, especially if you drop it on something hard like a concrete sidewalk. Some kind of plastic case, and either a plastic or tempered glass cover for the front glass, will go a long way to keeping your phone in good running order and lengthening its service life. Everyone drops a phone now and then, but a case significantly lowers your probability of damaging your phone.

  • Adjust the settings

Every phone is different, so without going into specifics, smartphones have all kinds of ways to increase the size of icons or lettering or increase the contrast to improve visibility. If you don’t know how, get someone to help you adjust the settings so your phone suits you and your vision perfectly. If you need to use your phone, you want to be able to see it clearly.

  • Basic operations

Your smartphone is a sophisticated device. But you don’t have to use everything or even know how to use everything. It is important, however, that you know how to at least make a phone call, answer a phone call, send a text, and read a text sent to you. If you’re not confident about using your phone, get someone to help you learn the basics. It’s also possible to watch YouTube videos on phone use and read online articles about your particular make and model.

Smartphones are a wonderful examples of modern technology. They enable people to easily ask for help, look up directions, and talk instantly to loved ones, for example. If you have a smartphone, we highly recommend learning to use it confidently, for your own safety.
